GALACTIC - Ya-Ka-May (2010)

Chunky & funky New Orleans sounds from Galactic, as far reaching and unpigeonholeable as ever on their second album for Anti, possibly the the most diverse of their career!! Ya-Ka-May rolls out some of the Hip Hop Funk vibe that carried their previous album, but that's just one flavor in a boldly spiced entry, with brassy Crescent City Funk, heavy percussive groovers, swampy Soul & Funk Rock numbers and more. Galactic's been pumping long enough to earn the requests of young guns and legends alike, and this record features guests including Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Rebirth Brass Band, Trombone Shorty & Corey Henry and many more!!

MESHELL NDEGEOCELLO - Devil´s Halo (2009)

Meshell Ndegeocello has been delivering one masterful set of astral Soul, Funk and avant groove gems after another since her commercial peak in the 90s, and Devil's Halo is as excellent, if not better than all of the others!! If there's one thing we absolutely love more than any other fascinating element of Meshell's career, it's that we don't know what the next song will sound like on any release, and it's all good. Slow building, moody and soulful, and bursting with energy in turns, she rolls from Folk Soul, to Electro Funk and Funk Rock, to Cosmic Jazz flourishes with equal success, and the passionate vocals always cut deep!!
