THE IVIES - SUNSHINE / COME ON (1958)

Ok, have something realy rare and realy special for you. J Dilla's father, Beverly Dewitt Yancey, he was probably the single most influential person in Dilla's musical development, had numerous musical groups over the years from their gospel group Positive Force, to their after church group they liked to call the Attitude Adjustment which included a 10 year old Dilla playing snare drum, to their Jazz and Gospel group The Larks, which they just sang with not two years ago. But Mr. Yancey's first group was a Doo Wop group called The Ivies. Vlada recently featured Ivies on Laid Back radio and people loved it. So we decided to give you this present. We would like to say BIG THANKS to Dana Bartle a documentary filmmaker based in New York City (soon interview with her on DVAN), for providing us with Ivies hit Sunshine. Of course, big shout out and best wishes from Global Grooves Collective to Yancey family. We are giving you this track for free, but you should go on amazon and buy CD like we do.

2 WEEKS OF DILLA SPECIAL

J DILLA CHANGED OUR LIVES. DEFINETLY. This is so true. As we announced few days ago, from today and for the next 2 weeks, The Global Grooves Collective and DVAN will celebrate the life and work of J Dilla. This Special will introduce everyone who doesn’t know who J Dilla was and to remind all of you who knows who Dilla was. We´ll also support Ma Dukes and J Dilla Foundation!!

MISSION OF THE J DILLA FOUNDATION

The J Dilla Foundation is a non-profit organization that serves to help fund inner-city music programs, and provide scholarship to students attending schools that have progressive music curriculum. The foundation was started by Maureen Yancey, mother of acclaimed producer James “Jay Dee aka J. Dilla” Yancey. J. Dilla was a Grammy award winning record producer and artist who emerged from the mid-1990s Underground Hip Hop scene in Detroit, Michigan. According to NPR.org, he was one of the music industry’s most influential Hip Hop artists, working for big-name acts such as Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes, Common and Janet Jackson. MORE DETAILS HERE.

There will not be free downloads of J Dilla albums. We don’t have the approval, and honestly we haven’t asked. The reason is that money from sales goes to foundation and work on lupus awareness. Here is the LINK for you to help and donate

By the end of the introduction you will see videos, photos, Dilla discography, and some free mixtapes and radio shows.
